Taking Care of Business
Taking Care of Business is a solo piece of work about love, obsession, desperation, exhaustion and heart break. The work explores the life of Pricilla Presley, wife of Elvis Presley, and asks what if she, like myself, had remained just a fan girl? Instead she found herself in a world surrounded by money, fame, control, secrets, lies, insomnia and spiritual quests. It looks at my own genuine love for 'The King' she was married to and my desperate attempts to match up to his black haired beauty.

The idea for the work arrived out of frustration with the extent to which Priscilla has been used on many occasions to gain media dubbed ‘exclusive insights’ into the personal life of Elvis Presley. I feel sympathetic towards Priscilla; an emotion that was triggered when I caught an episode of The Jonathon Ross Show recently which featured Priscilla as a special guest. The cockney presenter probed Priscilla for trivial insights into Elvis’s habits at the cost of her emotions, not in an offensive way but it still implied that her involvement on the show was perhaps, like much of the rest of her life, a way to get closer to Elvis. The work uses modes of biographical story telling with the aim of bringing Priscilla Presley’s often untold and unheard story to the surface, a life that I feel has so often been over shadowed by the fame and tragic demise of ‘The King of Rock and Roll’.
